The Woman in Black Trailer Analysis (Horror Genre)
At the beginning of the trailer the you can only hear the wind quietly howling. The film distributors names fade in from the black screen and then there are a mixture of medium, long and close up shots of dolls and furniture in an abandoned mansion. As the camera shows more dolls they start to move and slow creepy music begins to play. This creates tension in the audience because the music and close up shots of the dolls create a creepy atmosphere. Towards the middle of the trailer the pace of the editing begins to speed up and the camera shots changes in time with the music which creates more tension. Next a loud drum is struck at regular intervals and the pace of the editing speeds up. At this point in the trailer there are more shots of the main protagonist which has strange things happen to him. There are also three little girls which are shown through out the trailer and subvert to the stereotype of children being innocent which creates even more tension. After this scene the music stops and Daniel Radcliffe's name fades onto a black screen. Daniel Radcliffe is then shown looking out of a window and there is shot reverse shot showing the empty road in front of the house. When the camera cuts back to Daniel Radcliffe the audience can clearly see a ghostly face which appears next to him. A two shot of this scene is effective because the dark room behind Daniel Radcliffe makes him look vulnerable and makes the audience think that there is something lurking in the darkness.
