The Shining Trailer Analysis (Horror Genre)
At the beginning of the trailer there is police officer talking over establishing shots. The first shot is a long shot of a landscape and then cuts to a long shot of a mansion. Next there are multiple panning medium shots of the inside of the house. This first section of the trailer is used to establish where the story will take place. The panning shots are slow and create tension at the beginning of the trailer. Afterwards the screen cuts to the police officer's office and shows the main protagonist using a close up shot. In this scene the main protagonist says "You can rest assured Mr Omen that's not gonna happen with me". This instantly tells the audience that something definitely will happen when he goes to the mansion. Later on in the trailer the pace of the trailer speeds up and lots of clips are shown from the movie where the main character is going insane and his wife and son are running away from him. Lots of close ups are also shown of the character's frightened faces. The music in this scene also speeds up which builds tension in the audience. At the end of the trailer the scene cuts to black and the music stops. This makes the audience think that something might jump out at them and keeps the audience on the edge of their seat. Finally the title of the movie fades in from the black screen and ominous music plays therefore creating tension in the audience.
