Taken Trailer Analysis (Action Thriller Genre)

At the beginning of the Taken trailer it shows the main protagonist's daughter telling her father about a trip to Paris that she wants to take with her friend. In this scene there is a flash of a long shot of Paris and a scene where the mother and father are waving goodbye to their daughter and her friend. The music in this scene is slow and makes the audience think that something bad is going to happen when the main protagonist's daughter goes to Paris. Suddenly the music changes and becomes more dramatic. A phone conversation between the main protagonist and his daughter in Paris is shown with lots of close ups of their faces. During the phone call men break into the daughter's house in Paris and the main protagonist tells her to hide underneath a bed before saying "The next part is very difficult, they are going to take you". After he says that his daughter is taken which builds a lot of tension in the audience. At the beginning of the next scene someone is someone holding the daughters phone and listening to the main protagonist. Slow piano music is played and there is dialogue from the main protagonist which is heard through out the rest of the trailer. This scene builds lots of tension in the audience and also tells the audience more about the main protagonist. As the trailer continues the piano music speeds up and the pace of the editing also speeds up. There are now fast paced fight scenes shown and this creates lots of tension before the person on the other side of the main protagonist's phone says "Good luck".
