Rise of the Planet of the Apes Trailer Analysis (Post ApocalypticGenre)

At the start of the trailer it shows a scientist at a meeting explaining that he has found a cure for Alzheimer's. The scientist is then shown teaching a chimp sigh language. There are lots of two shots used to show the relationship developing between the chimp and the scientist. Dramatic music is used during this whole section of the trailer to create tension in the audience. Next there are lots of scenes showing the chimp becoming smarter and even helping the scientist's father who has Alzheimer's. The dramatic music becomes louder when the chimp attacks a neighbour which makes the scene more dramatic. Afterwards the chimp is sent to a zoo where he is treated badly. In the last scene of this section of the trailer the dramatic music suddenly stops when the chimp is shown unlocking the door to his cage from the inside. This is effective because it is dramatic and immediately tells the audience that something bad is going to happen. Lastly ominous music is played while the chimp is shown using long shots and close ups shots roaming freely. Then the loud dramatic music returns and all thousands of apes are shown roaming freely in the city lead by the main chimp (Caesar). The pace of editing is fast and long shots are used to show explosion and the amount of apes that have formed a revolution against humans. This part of the trailer is effective because it creates tension and shows the fight between the humans and the apes.
