Pirates of the Caribbean Trailer Analysis (Action Adventure Genre)
When the trailer begins there is dramatic music played over flashbacks and some action scenes in the film. Long shots are used to establish where the scene is set and lots of close up shots are used to clearly show a character's emotion. There is also a voice which narrates over the beginning of the trailer explaining about a curse. This part of the trailer explains about the story and creates tension using action scenes. Tension is also created by using fast paced editing. The next part of the trailer is also fast paced and has dramatic music. Close up shots are used to show the desperation on the character Will Turner and the fast paced editing and music are used to emphasise this. In this part of the trailer it also shows the main protagonist Captain Jack Sparrow. Jack Sparrow is shown having a sword fight and swinging on the mast of a ship but at the end of this part of the trailer he is slapped but a woman. This might lead the audience to think that in the story Jack Sparrow might not live up to the legend that is shown in the previous scenes. The comedic scene is effective because it shows that the movie will have funny moments and serious fast paced action moments. Afterwards the pace of the trailer slow down when the pirates who capture the character Elizabeth reveal what they really look like. Jumpscares are used to scare the audience and the long scenes are used to create tension. The close ups of the ghost pirates also make them look more formidable. Finally the pace of the trailer speeds up again and there is a compilation of action scenes and funny scenes from throughout the film. The dramatic music and fast paced fights scenes used creates tension in the audience.
