Men in Black Trailer Analysis (Sci-Fi Genre)

 

At the start of the beginning of the trailer the production company appears but a blue flash transitions the screen to black with white text saying "More secretive than the CIA". There is also a voice over explaining about the secret organisation and dramatic music. The sound used in this scene is effective because it makes the audience want to know more about this secret organisation. In the next scene there is a panning close up shot of a case full of futuristic weapons before an alien is shot by one of the main protagonists in the film. This immediately tells the audience that it will be a Sci-Fi film. Another main protagonist is later introduced and is given prevalence throughout the rest of the trailer. After the main protagonist is introduced there is compilation of the main protagonist's preparation in becoming a member of the men in black. The compilation uses lots of close up shots and two shots of the main protagonists and includes scenes with explosions. This is effective because the it makes the audience empathise with the main protagonist. The dramatic music also speeds up and the pace of the editing also changes. This creates tension and it makes the audience want to watch the rest of the movie. At the end of the trailer it shows the main protagonists shoots down a space ship which crashes on earth. This is an effective way to end the trailer because it is dramatic and causes the audience to ask questions about who is on the space ship.
