Inception Trailer Analysis (Action Thriller Genre)



 
When the trailer starts with a slow motion close up shot of waves and the main protagonist lying in the water. Slow and dramatic is played and there is dialogue from the main protagonist where he explains subconscious security. The beginning of the trailer is effective because the dramatic music creates tension and the dialogue makes the audience want to know more about subconscious security. In the next part of the trailer a female protagonist is introduced by being offered a work placement with the main protagonist. There are many close up shots in this scene of the main protagonists and fast paced fight scenes and chase scenes. The dramatic music also speeds up which builds tension in the audience. Next the music speeds up again and there are medium and long shots of explosions and the "dream world" collapsing. This scene has fast paced editing and makes this part of the trailer exciting to watch. In the final part of the trailer the main protagonist says "I have it under control". The next scene then shows a long shot of destroyed high rise buildings collapsing into the water. Dramatic music is played before it suddenly stops and a man says "I'd hate to see it out of control". This final scene is effective because its dramatic and it creates tension in the audience.
