Hacksaw Ridge Trailer Analysis (War Genre)

The trailer begins with slow motion medium shots of soldiers running through smoke and a slow motion explosion. Slow dramatic music is played during this scene until the someone on the walkie talkie says "Who the hell is private Doss?". This is effective because it makes the audience wonder who the main protagonist is and why all the other soldiers would wait for him. In the next part of the trailer it shows what type of person the main protagonist is and the problems he faces when he announces that he won't kill anyone. There are lots of close ups of the main protagonist which makes the audience empathise with him. This part of the trailer is effective because dramatic music is played and there are scenes where other soldiers look down on him an humiliate him. In the next scene the main protagonist is in court and the general tells him that his is "free to run into the hellfire of battle without a single weapon to protect yourself". Then there is dramatic music and long shots of the main protagonist in the war zone and saving people who have been wounded. Tension is created in both of these scenes because going to battle without a weapon sounds insane and the audience want to know what will happen to the main protagonist.
